"Stop this War"; is a cry that is heard in many parts of the Islamic world. Have we wondered what the followers of a war mongering outlook such as Islam want an end to this war.? To answer this question we need to ask another question; Is there a tradition in Islamic history to decry war and promote peace? Have Muslims generally rallied around peace movements or have they raised war cries at the drop of a hat? The answers to these questions are obvious.
Treaty of Hudabiya
But the minute we raise these questions one word will be thrown at us and that is - Hudabiya. We are told that the Prophet signed this treaty for stoppage of hostilities. Recently President Pervez Musharraf also cited this treaty while justifying his tactical alliance with the USA in the War against Terror.
For non-Muslim readers according to this treaty signed between Prophet Mohammed and the largely Jewish tribe of Koreish in Medina (a mainly Jewish city until the Islamic assault) there was to be peace between the Muslims and the Jews. But after signing this treaty when the Jews de-mobilized, the Muslims slaughtered them and the Muslim soldiers raped the Jewish women. This treaty has been cited to remind Muslims that pacts with the enemy are temporary expedients to be followed by war.
Stop the War … till victory is guaranteed for the Jihad against the West
Today stop the war campaign is also in the same spirit. The only justification for stopping this war is because the Muslims are losing it. This may sound crude today. have we not been told by President Bush and Prime Minister Blair that this is not a war against Islam, then where is the question that the Muslims are losing it. Let us for s minute step into the shoes of the Jihads. For them the war is against the West. Their slogans are Death to America. For them there is no confusion as to whom they are fighting and for what - World domination of Islam.
While the more subtle Muslim Intellectuals, like the prophet 1350 years ago are more sagacious and know that this is the time to talk peace.
Stop the war … Till Osama acquires nuclear capability
Till Osama acquires nuclear capability, till the dice is loaded against the West, till victory is guaranteed for the Jihad against the West. Then there will be no calls for peace, no citing the treaty of Hudabiya. Then the only thing cited about the treaty is what followed after the Jews de-mobilized and started off a series of Muslim victories from Spain to Sindh to China. It is high time that those who have picked up the gauntlet thrown by Al Qaeda on the 11th of September do no rest till they reach their goal that of complete and permanent victory over the forces of Islam. Or else the aftermath of the treaty of Hudabiya will repeat itself this time not just in Medina but all across the globe.
What would have been the scenario had the Muslims been winning this war today?
One last question.. Had the Muslims been winning the war, or if they has any chance of winning it in future; would there have been any clamor of civilian casualties, demands for stoppage of war during Ramzan, the horrors of war, etc which the Muslim intelligentsia are painting the town read with. In that sceanrio, the talk would have been of a final push to the Jihad to decimate the Western world, to subjugate it with the sword of Islam to spread the word of Allah across the globe. As Osama himself has said "Allarzu Lillah, Walhukumu Lillah." "The world belongs to Allah and so the rule of Allah should prevail all across the world."
This is something that the World, and the USA in particular, needs to ponder upon if it is tempted to fall prey to the rising clamour to "stop the war".
