One myth that is clouding the vision of many sane and sensible folks across many of the world's capitals today is that there are moderate Jihadis. Oh yes there are. And the only thing to be done is to send in a midwife to find it out for us. General Musharraf is one such midwife.
Finding a Moderate Muslims is like finding a partially pregnant virgin!
Trying to find a moderate Jihadi is like trying to find a partially pregnant virgin. A moderate Muslims is a contradiction in terms. And the reason for this contradiction lies much deeper in the most primal psychology for which the Muslims draws its sustenance and existence. The ideology of violent monotheistic global nihilism which is the description for that one word termed - Islam. To elaborate on this the very concept of Islam is exclusive to that of human civilization. Some may find this to be a colored understanding of Islam. But it is a factual one. Since it is this ideology of violent monotheistic global nihilism which describes Islam and the Jehad.
The history of the 14 centuries of Islam bears evidence to the fact that Muslims have never reconciled to having non-Islamic people anywhere in the globe. The Muslim lifestyle may have changed - Jazzy Cars instead of the Camel Caravans, Denims instead of the Dishdashas (the flowing gown of the Arabs), their weapons may have changed from the sword of Allah to the Islamic Atom Bomb. But their outlook remains unchanged - that of the Jehad - to convert all Kafirs to Islam on the pain of death.
This attitude is typified today in the proclamation made by Osama Bin Laden, the best known face of international Islamic terrorism of Jehad; "Alarzu Lillah, Walhukmu Lillah." (The Earth belongs to Allah and thus only Allah's rule should prevail all over the earth.)
The Core of Osama's and Taliban's Motivation
For an answer let us understand that, what fundamentally motivates Osama Bin Laden and an average Jihadi, is something that also carries appeal to an average Muslim youth across the globe. Everyone knows that it is their Islamic faith that motivates them in a very primal way. And the Islamic faith is enshrined in the Quran. What advice does the Quran give to its followers? Let us ask Ali Sina a former Muslim, who has done us the seminal favor of telling us what lies in the Quran.
He says that the Quran preaches cruelty, and incites violence to disturb public tranquility. Here are some quotations from the Quran given with chapter and verse numbers.
Surah 9: Ayat 123. Believers! Make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Let them find harshness in you.
Surah 9: Ayat 39. If you do not fight, He (Allah) will punish you sternly and replace you with other men…
Surah 4: Ayat 100. He that flies his homeland for the cause of Allah shall find numerous places of refuge in the land and great abundance. He that leaves his dwelling to fight for Allah and His apostle and is then overtaken by death, shall be rewarded by Allah.
Surah 8: Ayats 59-60. Let the unbelievers not think that they will escape Us. They have not the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your disposal, so that you may strike terror into the enemies of Allah and the faithful, and others besides them. All that you give for the cause of Allah shall be repaid you. You shall not be wronged.
Surah 9: Ayat 29. Fight against such of those to whom the Scriptures were given as believe neither in Allah nor the Last Day, who do not forbid what Allah and His apostle have forbidden, and do not embrace the true faith, until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued.
Surah 8: Ayat 67. It is not for any Prophet to have captives until he has made slaughter in the land....
The earlier we realize the futility of finding a moderate Muslims - the better it would be, to devise the right strategy in the War against Terror
Thus, Islam does not accept co-existence of non-Islamic people anywhere on the globe. So it is logical to foresee either a victory of the non-Islamic forces over Islam or vice versa.
This victory over Islam would have to be such that would once and for all put an end to the threat of an Islamic victory to civilization the world over. Thus in this context the search for a civilized Muslim - one who is true to the Quran is a chimera and so is the search for a moderate Taliban. Searching for one is like searching for a partially pregnant Virgin. The earlier we realize the futility - the better it would be, to devise the right strategy in the War against Terror.
